Its Long Journey
The original stone building underwent an ambitious renovation that carefully combines respect for its heritage with a contemporary approach. The project involved a complete restructuring of the interior: the first floor was entirely demolished so the house could be rebuilt on stronger and more functional foundations. Some emblematic architectural features were preserved, including the basket-handle arch windows. Carefully restored, they continue to play an important role in natural light, ventilation, thermal and acoustic insulation, while enhancing the appearance of the façade. Their presence gives the building the authentic and welcoming character that defines its soul.
In place of the former single level, two full floors and an additional half-floor were created, considerably increasing the living space. While the original stone façade was retained to preserve the traditional identity of local architecture, the interior now adopts a resolutely contemporary style: bright, refined and optimised for modern use.
An outstanding artistic detail also distinguishes the renovation: on one of the façades, Hokusai's famous Great Wave off Kanagawa, created in 1830, has been carefully reproduced in stone. A universal symbol of the power of nature and the passage of time, the wave represents a subtle balance between stability and movement, memory and modernity.
This major renovation, carried out over nearly two years, forms part of an effort to preserve and enhance Boa Vista's historic buildings. It reflects the desire to combine architectural heritage with contemporary comfort, creating a place that feels both timeless and firmly connected to the present.
